The Council for the Written Word
The Council for the Written Word (CWW) is a non-profit organization that promotes writing in Williamson County, Tennessee.
All of CWW’s projects are planned and implemented with two major goals in mind:
Activities of the Council for the Written Word
Official Council for the Written Word Website
Recognition of Authors and Those Who Have Performed Distinguished Public Service
The oldest activity, maintained since CWW’s inception in 1993, is its bibliography of past and present authors in Williamson County. Updated quarterly, it contains a brief biography and a listing of the published works of each person living in the County who has published a book. The bibliography is online at the Williamson County Public Library website.
In order to be included in the bibliography of local authors, please fill out this form and return it to Council for the Written Word; PO Box 298; Franklin, TN 37065.
The Jane Langston Service Award, named for its first recipient, is awarded yearly to Williamson County residents who have records of distinguished public service.
A Hall of Fame Banquet or Reception is held from time to time to honor a Williamson County writer whose work meets three criteria: depiction of people, history, and culture of the County; recognition of literary success; and contribution to and support of the literary activities of the County.
Promotion of Artistic Expression by Educating and Thus Empowering Writers
The Columbia State Community College Scholarship Program awards an annual scholarship to a student enrolled at the Williamson County branch of Columbia State who aspires to write.
March and September are writing workshop months. The Spring Writers’ Workshop is a concentrated one-day event, providing instruction and hands-on writing experience in one genre. The Fall Writers’ Seminar devotes a day to speakers intimately acquainted with the art and business of writing: authors, editors, publishers, agents, and publicists.
Twice a month the CWW Critique Group meets to support Williamson County writers who wish to share their work and get encouraging and objective feedback.
Receptions and book signings are hosted by CWW for recently published books of CWW members.
Some Council members are available for talks in individual specialties.
The Council meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6PM at St. Barnabas Center of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in downtown Franklin.
