  • The Arts Council of Williamson County has two speakers scheduled for the August meeting of the Brown Bag Lunch Bunch. Jennifer Casale, poet and owner of The Green Wagon, and Shawn South-Aswad, artist and owner of Silo Studios, will speak. The meeting is open to the public, so bring your lunch and join the Arts Council for this interesting discussion. Friday, August 13 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in the Meeting Room.
  • ReferenceUSA logo A representative from ReferenceUSA will be at the Main Library on Wednesday, August 18 to offer two classes on using ReferenceUSA, a database of 14 million businesses containing verified and accurate data, which is updated monthly. A class on using ReferenceUSA as a job searching tool will be held at 3:30 pm. A class on using ReferenceUSA to improve marketing for your business will be held at 6:30 pm. Call 615-595-1243 to register for either class.

Book Discussion Groups at WCPL

The Williamson County Public Library hosts book groups at all branches and at the Main Library. The Book Group meeting schedules for the branches are located on each branch's web page. At the Main Library, the Evening Book Discussion Group will meet on Tuesday, August 10 from 6:00 - 7:45 pm to discuss Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. New members are always welcome.




Come Dancing @ Your Library

Do you think you have two left feet and worry about how you look on the dance floor? Enjoy a new feeling of control and joy as you go through the steps with outstanding instructor Charles Garvey. Classes are held on Mondays from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Children's Activity Room. Classes are not in sequence; new dancers are always welcome. Basic Yoga @ the Library

On Wednesdays at 2:30 - 3:30 pm, (no classes Aug. 18 & 25) there are free basic yoga classes in the Meeting Room at the Main Library. Bring everything you need to participate: a yoga mat and any supportive gear, such as a blanket or yoga blocks. All ages are welcome, but children must be mature enough to participate without disturbing other students in the class. Genealogy Workshops

The Special Collections Department staff offers free one-on-one thirty minute sessions in the use of Genealogical databases subscribed to by the Williamson County Public Library. The library subscribes to HeritageQuest.com, AncestryLibrary.com and Footnotes.com. Sessions are available by appointment on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Each session is for thirty minutes. Please call the Special Collections Department at 595-1246 ext. 1 for an appointment or to ask questions about the service. Participants will need a WCPL library card in good standing to access the library computers and databases.




Council for the Written Word

The Council for the Written Word sponsors a Writing Critique Group at the Main Library on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 10:30 am until noon. Meetings in August will be held on Saturday, August 7 & 21 at 10:30 am. Ask at the Circulation Desk for location.




Franklin Civil War Roundtable

The next meeting of the Franklin Civil War Round Table will be held on Sunday, August 8 at 3:00 pm at the Main Library, 1314 Columbia Avenue in Franklin. "Chicago's Irish Legion" is the topic for this month's presentation by Roundtable member Jim Swan. The 90th Illinois Volunteers marched over 2600 miles and saw extensive action in the Western Theater. Jim will share stories about this regiment's experiences as well as observations about the people and places of Tennessee. Jim is a retired professor from Iowa State and avid historian. He and his wife Patricia have played a large role in the formation of the Franklin Round Table. He will have copies of his book available.


Computer Classes
Computer Classes

The Williamson County Public Library in Franklin TN, offers computer classes throughout the year. Classes are free to all Williamson County Public Library card-holders. Registration by phone is required.

Introduction to the Computer or equivalent knowledge is required for all other classes. Registration for classes began Monday, July 12. Introduction to the Computer must be taken prior to signing up for any additional classes.

To register for classes call the Reference Department at 615-595-1243, and speak with a Librarian. If you are routed to voicemail or another department, keep calling 595-1243 until you have reached a Librarian. All sessions are held in the Main Library Computer Lab on Monday afternoons from 5:00 until 6:30 pm.

.Mousing Mondays New Mousing Monday sessions are on Mondays in the Computer Center on the 2nd floor of the Main Library. Learn and practice computer mousing and keyboarding skills -- an ideal opportunity for those just getting started with a computer. A Librarian will be on hand to help you get started, answer questions, and provide encouragement. No previous computer experience is required. Call the Library at 615-595-1243 for more information or to register.

Career Development Center

Career Development Resources

The Williamson County Public Library has established a grant-funded Career Resource Center. One component of the Center is a resource guide compiled by the WCPL Reference Staff.

Career Center One-on-Ones

Individual appointments with a member of the Reference staff can be made by calling 595-1243 or visiting the reference desk. Appointment times are Tuesday and Thursdays 10:00 -11:30 am. Individual sessions are 30 minutes in length. Patrons must have a valid library card.
Résumé Software- A librarian will walk you through our Learning Express database which can help you with job searching and networking skills, interviewing and skills assessments and generate a résumé and cover letter.
Résumé Review– If you have participated in our Righting a Résumé class or generated a résumé with our Learning Express program you can schedule a one-on-one with a librarian. We will review your résumé for content and appearance based on the guidelines developed in our résumé class. We can also help you modify your traditional résumé into .pdf or scannable format.

Adaptive Technology Center

The Main Library's Adaptive Technology Center is available for patrons needing special assistance. The computers, located on the second floor of the library, are equipped with specialty hardware and software for increased ease of use. Both computers feature the screenreader JAWS, screen magnifer MAGic, Open Book scanning software, and Optelec Clear View magnifiers. In addition to the standard scroll mouse, the computers also have trackball and touch pad mice, a switch-adapted joystick and a button switch. Keyboards with larger keys and half-keyboards are available, and the computers are installed on height-adjustable tables. A valid library card is needed to use the Center.
