Grandmother's Essence
(Jim and Dawn Taylor)

This garden is reminiscent of Grandmother’s country garden. Her flowers were planted where space was available, where most anything became a pot, and fruit and vegetables were a must. This garden has her tansy, phlox, tiger lily, campion rose, columbine, peonies, and carnations. Look for a variety of items Grandmother would have used for pots. A wooden planter box made by Granddad contains flowers of old and new varieties. Grandmother’s Essence has strawberries, blackberries, corn, beans, tomatoes, squash, and other vegetables that add delight to summer-time meals. Several brick-o-block structures built prior to 1960 currently hold ornamental grasses, ivy, petunias, creeping jenny, and zinnias. A shade garden of hostas, ferns, impatiens, and trillium, along with an herb bed, round out Grandmother’s Essence.
