Williamson County celebrated the 200th anniversary of its formation in 1999. In honor of this celebration, the Williamson Country Public Library proudly offers a commemorative Pioneer Families of Williamson County, Tennessee Certificate to eligible persons. Anyone directly descended from a pre-1850-pioneer of the county is welcome to apply for this permanent remembrance of their family history and the county's bicentennial.
The data furnished by applicants as proof of lineage will become a valuable addition to the library's Genealogy and Local History collection. These family records will become a resource for other historians and genealogists, and will supplement the published histories of the county. (Click here for a list of all the certificates to date)
To qualify for membership in the Pioneer Families of Williamson County, Tennessee, the applicant must descend from an ancestor (male or female) who lived in Williamson County, Tennessee prior to 1850. The applicant must be able to prove descent from the ancestor by an official record or records for each generation, including proof for the applicant. Current Tennessee residency is not required.
The application packet includes a Line of Descent Chart, the Pioneer Families Certificate Application, Pioneer Family Group Sheets and complete instructions. Computer generated family sheets may be substituted for the Pioneer Family Group Sheets.
200th participant is Thomas Benjamin Carothers, a
direct descendant of Robert Carothers, who settled in Williamson County prior to 1850.
