Janice Keck Literary Awards
The Williamson County Public Library has announced four winners of the first Janice Keck Literary Awards. The announcement was made on the Library's monthly television program, "Not Just Books," broadcast on WC-TV. The winning authors, all Williamson County residents, are

  • Fiction: John Neely Davis for Bear Shadow
  • Nonfiction: Brad W. Hoover for Tears of Hope: Hero in a Bandanna
  • Poetry: Sandy Coomer for The Presence of Absence
  • Children's Literature: Jean Simmons for Willy the Panther Cat

Bucky & Bonnie's Library Adventure wins national award.

Bucky & Bonnie's Library Adventure has received the "Best of Show at PR Xchange" Award in the Advocacy/Print category for libraries with budgets under $6 million. The "Best of Show at PR Xchange" awards recognize the very best public relations materials produced by libraries in the past year. Over 345 entries were evaluated based on content, originality, and design by a team of experts in public relations, graphic design, communications, and marketing who selected the winner(s) in each category.
The Best of Show Awards are sponsored by the Public Relations and Marketing Section of the Library Leadership Administration and Management Association, a division of the American Library Association, and are overseen by the PR XChange Committee. Winning entries will be on display during the PR Xchange program during the 2014 ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas. Awards will be presented to the winners on that day.
Bucky & Bonnie's Library Adventure, a book for children, was written, illustrated, and designed by Williamson County Public Library staff, and was published by Academy Park Press, WCPL's imprint for in-house publications. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the Main Library on Columbia Avenue, or at amazon.com.

Not Just Books Episode 1 Not Just Books is a monthly half hour program focusing on the WC Library and the community. Segments include "what's hot in books", "save the date", and "your world". It is also streamed on youtube.

Tennessee First Lady Crissy Haslam read "V is for Volunteer" by Michael Shoulders to community children Friday morning at the Williamson County Public Library in Franklin as part of the Reading Fun Fair in partnership with the United Way of Williamson County.

Williamson County Library received the Small Business Partnership Award. The Small Business Partnership Award is giving to small businesses that go above and beyond the call of duty concerning blood drives, partnerships or donations. The Williamson County Library hosts at least nine blood drives a year. To promote the drives, the organization posts the blood drives on their calendar, Facebook page and the employees personally tweet and about the blood drive. Even if the room is booked, this location will find alternate solutions, making sure blood collections are able to continue.

The Williamson County Main Library at 1413 Columbia Ave. in Franklin is offering Nook and Kindle e-book readers for check out. "We have adapted to the new technology," said Nicholson. "The nooks are convenient and they are also helpful to people with eye problems. Some versions of the nook are also available on audio," she said.
