GET STARTED WITH THE OVERDRIVE APP

Go to the Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore, or NOOK app store.  Download the free OverDrive Media Console app to your mobile device.

After you’ve downloaded the free OverDrive app, you’ll be prompted to create a new OverDrive account.

After you’ve created your account, touch the OverDrive icon ipad_overdriveicon on your device to begin.  Then click the OVERDRIVE MENU icon.  The location of this icon on the screen may vary depending on which device you have.

Click on ADD A LIBRARY

Enter zip code (37064) to find Williamson County Public Library’s R.E.A.D.S website and then click SEARCH.

Find the name of your branch on the list.  Touch the name to select it.  For the main library, touch Buffalo River Region - Williamson County Public Library.

Touch the star next to Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. to save the website.  Then touch TENNESSEE R.E.A.D.S. to begin.

You will only have to go through the above steps the first time you access R.E.A.D.S. using the OverDrive app.  After that, you will simply click on the OverDrive app icon on your device and sign in to your R.E.A.D.S. account.

SIGN IN TO YOUR R.E.A.D.S. ACCOUNT

Touch the ACCOUNT icon or SIGN IN.  You will need your library card barcode.

You’ll be prompted for your library name.  Type WILLIAMSON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY or the name of your branch (BETHESDA, COLLEGE GROVE, FAIRVIEW, LEIPER’S FORK or NOLENSVILLE) into the box and touch ENTER or touch your library’s name when it appears.

Type your LIBRARY CARD NUMBER in the box (all numbers and no spaces). Click SIGN IN.

Touch a BOOK COVER to get more information about that title. eBooks are designated by a book icon in the top right corner, while eAudiobooks have a headphone icon.  A dark icon indicates that the book is available for immediate checkout, and a greyed out icon means that the book is currently checked out.

Light Grey Icon = Place A Hold

BORROW A BOOK

To borrow an eBook or an eAudiobook that is available, click on the book cover and then touch BORROW.  The book will now appear on your BOOKSHELF. You can touch the ACCOUNT icon to view your BOOKSHELF at any time.

Click on the DOWN ARROW next to DOWNLOAD to select the format.

Be sure to choose EPUB eBook if you’re checking out an eBook or MP3 Audiobook if you’re checking out an eAudiobook.  If you are using the OverDrive App on a Kindle Fire, you still need to choose the EPUB eBook format.

After you have chosen your format, click CONFIRM & DOWNLOAD.

PLACE A BOOK ON HOLD

If the title you have selected is already checked out, you can be placed on the waiting list for that title.  You can also have your hold automatically borrowed for you when it becomes available.  Touch PLACE A HOLD.

In the pop-up that opens, enter your email address and make sure that “Automatically borrow this title when it becomes available” is selected.  Then click “Place a Hold.”

You can turn automatic borrowing on or off for any title you’ve placed on hold by visiting your Holds page and selecting the [Edit] link under “Auto checkout.”

When a title you have on hold becomes available or is automatically borrowed for you, you will receive an email.  You can then sign in to your R.E.A.D.S. account and go to the HOLDS menu on your BOOKSHELF to download the title.

OPEN AND READ OR LISTEN TO YOUR BOOK

To borrow, download, or place a hold on a book, you went to your R.E.A.D.S. bookshelf, but to read or listen to your book, you must be on your OverDrive bookshelf.  On your R.E.A.D.S. BOOKSHELF page, click the OVERDRIVE MENU ICON.  The location of the icon on your screen depends on which device you’re using.

Click on BOOKSHELF on the OverDrive “My Libraries” box.

The OverDrive Bookshelf opens.  Click on a BOOK COVER to open it and begin reading.

RENEW YOUR LIBRARY BOOK

Log into your R.E.A.D.S. account.  On your Bookshelf, select the “Renew” option next to the title you’d like to renew.  This option does not appear until three days before the title is supposed to expire.

If there is no existing hold on the title, the Renew icon will be green and you can renew the book immediately.  If there are existing holds, the icon will be grayed out, you will only be able to reserve a spot on the title’s hold list and borrow it again as soon as it’s available.

If you can renew immediately, enter and confirm your email address and select the Renew button.

RETURN A LIBRARY BOOK EARLY

Go to the OverDrive bookshelf as described on page 12.  Touch and hold the cover of the book you want to return.

When the blue Delete/Return box appears, click the RETURN icon.

To confirm you want to return the book, click RETURN again.
