If you have a Nook Color or Nook HD, you will need to download the Overdrive Media Console App to your device. Overdrive App instructions are available at the Williamson County Public Library reference desk or on the library’s homepage (go to wcpltn.org and then click on the brown eBooks button).
You must first:
- Register for an Adobe ID at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/index.cfm?loc=en_us&nl=1
- Download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer before you can transfer an eBooks to your Nook. http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/
You will be prompted to enter your Adobe ID the first time you connect your eReader to your computer after Adobe Digital Editions is installed.
SIGN IN TO R.E.A.D.S. ON YOUR COMPUTER
Go to http://reads.lib.overdrive.com and sign in to your R.E.A.D.S. account.
Type WILLIAMSON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY or the name of your branch (BETHESDA, COLLEGE GROVE, FAIRVIEW, LEIPER’S FORK or NOLENSVILLE) into the box and press ENTER or CLICK on your library’s name when it appears.
Type your LIBRARY CARD NUMBER in the box (all numbers and no spaces). Click “Sign In.”
YOUR R.E.A.D.S. ACCOUNT
Your account opens to your BOOKSHELF. Links to your HOLDS, LISTS, and SETTINGS are on the right side of the screen. Your BOOKSHELF shows all the books you have checked out.
Click on the SETTINGS icon on your BOOKSHELF page and change your default lending period from 7 days to 21 days.
FIND A BOOK IN R.E.A.D.S.
Select the MENU icon at the top of the screen. A lighter blue menu will drop down with categories for you to browse.
Click on ADVANCED SEARCH to search by Title, Author, Subject or Format, or click in the SEARCH box for a quick keyword search.
Click on a BOOK COVER to get more information about the book. Books that are available have a darker book icon in the top right corner, while audiobooks have a headphone icon. A dark icon indicates that a book is available and a greyed-out icon means the book is already checked out.
PLACE A BOOK ON HOLD
If the title you have selected is already checked out, you can be placed on the waiting list for that title. You can also have your hold automatically borrowed for you when it becomes available. Touch PLACE A HOLD.
In the pop-up that opens, enter your email address and make sure that “Automatically borrow this title when it becomes available” is selected. Then click “Place a Hold.”
You can turn automatic borrowing on or off for any title you’ve placed on hold by visiting your Holds page and selecting the [Edit] link under “Auto checkout.”
When a title you have on hold becomes available or is automatically borrowed for you, you will receive an email. You can then sign in to your R.E.A.D.S. account and go to the HOLDS menu on your BOOKSHELF to download the title.
BORROW A BOOK
To borrow a book that is available, select BORROW. The book will now appear on your BOOKSHELF. You can click on the ACCOUNT icon to view your Bookshelf.
You can also select GO TO BOOKSHELF to download or read the book in your browser.
You will be prompted to select the correct format for your eReader. Click on the down arrow to display available file formats.
Choose EPUB eBook or PDF. If you are using the OverDrive App on a Nook Color or Nook HD, you still need to choose the EPUB eBook format.
After you have chosen your format, click CONFIRM & DOWNLOAD.
After clicking CONFIRM & DOWNLOAD, you will see this message at the bottom of your screen. Click OPEN and Adobe Digital Editions will open.
TRANSFER A BOOK FROM YOUR COMPUTER TO YOUR eREADER
Click LIBRARY in the upper left corner of your screen to get to the Adobe Digital Editions BOOKSHELVES view. You should see your eReader icon under “Devices” on the left side of the screen.
Connect your eReader to your computer via a USB cord. Click on the eBook you want to download and drag it to your eReader icon.
You are now ready to read!
RENEW YOUR LIBRARY BOOK
Log into your R.E.A.D.S. account. On your Bookshelf, select the “Renew” option next to the title you’d like to renew. This option does not appear until three days before the title is supposed to expire.
If there is no existing hold on the title, the Renew icon will be green and you can renew the book immediately. If there are existing holds, the icon will be grayed out, you will only be able to reserve a spot on the title’s hold list and borrow it again as soon as it’s available.
If you can renew immediately, enter and confirm your email address and select the Renew button.
RETURNING BOOKS BEFORE THE DUE DATE
When the lending period for your book has expired, it will automatically return to R.E.A.D.S., so there are no worries about fines or overdue books. However, once items are checked out and downloaded to your eReader, you may delete them or return them early.
Open Adobe Editions on your computer by clicking on the Adobe Editions icon. Click on LIBRARY to open your BOOKSHELF. Right Click on the cover of the book you want to return and then click RETURN BORROWED ITEM.
You will then be asked to confirm that you want to return the book. Click RETURN.
