Login problems with the library's digital resources are often due to the security settings on your computer. For a vendor to authenticate access to ebooks, audiobook, articles and databases the web browser, IE, Firefox, etc., must be set to accept cookies, enable JavaScript and pop-ups. Google Chrome
To enable cookies in Chrome:
- Click the wrench icon.
- Select Settings.
- Click Show advanced settings.
- Click Content settings in the "Privacy" section.
- Select Allow local data to be set to allow both first-party and third-party cookies. If you only want to accept first-party cookies, check the box next to "Block all third-party cookies without exception."
Firefox (Mozilla Firefox)
To enable cookies in Mozilla Firefox 4.0 - 10.0 for Windows:
- Click “Tools” > “Options”
- Click “Privacy” in the top panel
- Set "Firefox will:" to “Use custom settings for history”
- Check the box next to "Accept cookies from sites" to enable cookies
- Click “OK”
To enable cookies in Mozilla Firefox 3.x for Windows:
- Click “Tools” > “Options”
- Click “Privacy” in the top panel
- Set "Firefox will:" to “Use custom settings for history”
- Check the box next to "Accept cookies from sites" to enable cookies
- Click “OK”
To enable cookies in Mozilla Firefox 2.x for Windows:
- Click “Tools” > “Options”
- Click “Privacy” in the top panel
- Select the checkbox labeled "Accept cookies from sites"
- Click “OK”
To enable cookies in Mozilla Firefox 1.x for Windows:
- Click “Tools” > “Options”
- Click “Privacy” in the top panel
- Click the “Cookies” tab
- Select the checkbox labeled “Allow sites to set cookies”
- Click “OK”.
To enable cookies in Mozilla Firefox for Mac:
- Go to the Firefox drop-down menu
- Select “Preferences”
- Click “Privacy”
- Set "Firefox will:" to Use custom settings for history
- Check the box next to "Accept cookies from sites" to enable cookies
- Click “OK”
Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE)
To enable cookies in IE 9:
- Click “Tools” > “Internet Options”
- Select the “Privacy” tab
- Click “Advanced”
- Select "Override automatic cookie handling" under the "Cookies" section in the Advanced Privacy Settings window.
- Select the "Accept" under "First-party Cookies"
- Select “Always allow session cookies”
- In the “Internet Options” window, click “OK” to exit
To enable cookies in IE 7 or 8:
- Click “Tools” > “Internet Options”
- Select the “Privacy” tab
- Click “Advanced”
- Select "Override automatic cookie handling" under the "Cookies" section in the Advanced Privacy Settings window.
- Select the "Accept" under "First-party Cookies"
- Select “Always allow session cookies”
- In the “Internet Options” window, click “OK” to exit
To enable cookies in IE 6:
- Click Start > Control Panel. (Note: with Windows XP Classic View, click the Windows Start button > Settings > Control Panel)
- Click the “Advanced” button
- Select the option “Override Automatic Cookie Handling”
- Select the “Accept” or “Prompt” option under “First-party Cookies”
- Select the “Accept” or “Prompt” option under “Third-party Cookies.” (Note: if you select the “Prompt” option, you'll be prompted to click “OK” every time a website attempts to send you a cookie.)
- In the “Internet Options” window, click “OK” to exit
Opera
To enable cookies in Opera Version 11.62:
- Click “Tools”>”Preferences”
- Click “Advanced”
- Click “Cookies”
- Select “Accept Cookies”
- Click “OK”
Safari
To enable cookies in Safari Versions 4 & 5:
- Go to the Safari drop-down menu
- Select “Preferences”
- Click “Security” in the top panel
- Under “Accept Cookies” select the option “Only from sites you navigate to”
To enable cookies in Safari Versions 1 & 2:
- Go to the “Preferences”
- Click “Security” in the top panel
- Under “Accept Cookies” select the option “Only from sites you navigate to”
Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE)
Note To allow scripting on this Web site only, and to leave scripting disabled in the Internet zone, add this Web site to the Trusted sites zone.
To enable JavaScript in IE 9:
- On web browser menu click "Tools" and select "Internet Options"
- In the "Internet Options" window select the "Security" tab
- On the "Security" tab click on the "Custom level..." button
- When the "Security Settings - Internet Zone" dialog window opens, look for the "Scripting" section
- In the "Active Scripting" item select "Enable"
- When the "Warning!" window pops out asking "Are you sure you want to change the settings for this zone?" select "Yes"
- In the "Internet Options" window click on the "OK" button to close it
- Click on the "Refresh" button of the web browser to refresh the page
To enable JavaScript in IE 7 & IE 8:
- Open the “Tools” menu
- Select “Internet Options” to open the “Internet Options” dialog box
- Click the “Security” tab
- Click the “Internet” symbol (a globe)
- Click the “Custom Level…” button, to open the Security Settings dialog box
- In the Settings list, scroll down to “Scripting”
- Under Active Scripting, click the radio button to the left of “Enable”, so that a colored dot appears in it. (Click “Disable” if you want to disable JavaScript.)
- Click “OK” to close the Security Settings dialog box
- Click “Yes” in the Warning! message box
- Click “OK” to close the “Internet Options” dialog box
To enable JavaScript in IE 6:
- Open the “Tools” menu
- Select “Internet Option”, to open the “Internet Options” dialog box
- Click the “Security” tab
- Click the “Internet” symbol (a globe)

- In the "Security" tab section "Web content" mark the "Enable JavaScript" checkbox
- Click on the "Reload the current page" button of the web browser to refresh the page
Opera
- On the web browser menu click "Tools" and select "Preferences"
- In the "Preferences" window select the "Advanced" tab
- On the "Advanced" tab click on "Content" menu item
- Mark the "Enable JavaScript" checkbox
- In the opened "Preferences" window click on the "OK" button to close it
- Click on the "Reload" button of the web browser to refresh the page
