R.E.A.D.S. Now iPod®-Compatible Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. has expanded compatibility with two popular audiobook formats: WMA and MP3. Thousands of WMA audiobooks now offer support for transfer to Apple devices, as well as dozens of other MP3 players, with a simple upgrade of the free software OverDrive® Media Console. In addition, R.E.A.D.S. added MP3 audiobooks to the collection, which offers iPod® and Mac® -compatibility. The R.E.A.D.S. program is so popular with WCPL patrons that WCPL routinely has the highest R.E.A.D.S. circulation in the state of Tennessee. The Williamson County Public Library has received a grant to establish a Career Resource Center beginning in the 2010 fiscal year. Planning for the Career Resource Center is ongoing. The first component of the Center is a resource guide compiled by the WCPL Reference Staff. More information about the grant is available in the WSMV-TV report aired on May 26, 2009. On June 11, 2009 the Today Show ran a segment on the important role libraries play during the recession, using data and resources provided by the ALA and public libraries. Beginning in August, the Library will offer a series of career development classes, and more activities and events will be announced soon. |

The themes for the 2009 Summer Reading Program were developed by the Collaborative Summer Library Program, and made available to the WCPL by the Tennessee State Library. The graphics for the children's program, Be Creative @ Your Library, were created by Illustrator David Catrow. Those for the young adult program, Express Yourself @ Your Library, are the work of illustrator Brad Sneed. All images are copyrighted, and are used with permission. | ![]() |

Author Afternoon @ the Library | |

Michael Freeland, author of Blood River to Berlin, will speak at an author afternoon at the Main Library in Franklin on Saturday, July 11 at 2:00 pm. His book, a World War II journal of an Army medic, is the gripping story of a farm boy who left school to find work in a defense plant, and was later drafted into the Army during World War II. The public is invited to hear the first person account of the World War II experiences of this Kentucky native. Veterans and children of veterans will have an opportunity to share their stories. |
Writing Workshops @ the Library | |
![]() | The Main Library in Franklin sponsorse a monthly series of free workshops on writing. All programs are held on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The July workshop, to be held on Saturday, July 18, will focus on "Making Poems: First Inspiration, Then Revision." This workshop, led by local poet Victoria Clausi, is currently full. Call 615-595-1250 to be put on a waiting list. The August workshop, on Saturday, August 29, will feature Kathryn Knight on the "Mechanics of Writing." Registration is required, and ends August 26..
