What Have I Read?
Reading History “Opt In”
The Library is often asked if we can tell someone whether they have already checked out a book. Our answer has always been, "No." To safeguard your privacy and the confidentiality of your library records, Williamson County Public Library maintains no record of what you have borrowed once the items have been returned.
However, you now have the option of asking the system to retain a Reading History of titles in your library account. Some people have asked for this service as a means of remembering a book or author they liked or for keeping a list of what they have already read. You must "opt-in" to the Reading History option to take advantage of this service.
Here's how it works:
- From the library’s web page login to your account by clicking the "My Library Account" link located near the top of left side bar.
- Click the "My Reading History" link.
- Click the "OPT IN" link to begin collecting your reading history the next time you check out an item from the library. Any items you checkout from this point on will be available to you whenever you click the "My Reading History" link.
- You can remove any or all titles at any time by checking the boxes next to the title and clicking one of the "Delete" links. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the "OPT OUT" link. When you OPT OUT, your entire reading history will be erased.
Library staff will not access your reading history at any time unless required by law*.
*Privacy statement:
Please be aware that anyone with access to your library card number and PIN can check your reading history. Also, the information contained in the reading history file is, as is any part of your library record, subject to any judicial process (e.g., the USA PATRIOT Act). If you are concerned about someone else seeing a list of what you are reading, the safest step is to not choose this option
By subscribing to MY READING HISTORY, I acknowledge that Williamson County Public Library's online library system will retain my checkout activity for my personal use. I may OPT OUT from this service or remove any or all titles from My Reading History at any time. Williamson County Public Library staff will not access My Reading History unless ordered to do so by an officer of the court.
