Book Discussion Groups at WCPL | |

The Williamson County Public Library hosts book groups at all branches and at the Main Library. The Book Group meeting schedules for the branches are located on each branch's web page. At the Main Library, the Evening Book Discussion Group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 6:00 - 7:45 pm to discuss American Gods by Neil Gaiman. New members are always welcome. |
Genealogy Workshops | |
![]() | The Special Collections Department staff offers free one-on-one thirty minute sessions in the use of Genealogical databases subscribed to by the Williamson County Public Library. The library subscribes to HeritageQuest.com, AncestryLibrary.com and Footnotes.com. Sessions are available by appointment on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Each session is for thirty minutes. Please call the Special Collections Department at 595-1246 ext. 1 for an appointment or to ask questions about the service. Participants will need a WCPL library card in good standing to access the library computers and databases. |
Legal Aid Clinic | |
![]() | The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee is holding free clinics at the Main Library to acquaint library patrons with the free legal services available to Williamson County residents. Clinics are scheduled on the first Tuesday of each month in the Meeting Room. The next clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 5:30 pm. Come Dancing @ Your Library | |

Enjoy a new feeling of control and joy as you go through the steps with outstanding instructor Charles Garvey. Classes are held on Mondays from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Children's Activity Room. Basic Yoga @ the Library |
On Wednesdays at 2:30 - 3:30 pm, there are free basic yoga classes in the Meeting Room at the Main Library. Bring everything you need to participate: a yoga mat and any supportive gear, such as a blanket or yoga blocks. All ages are welcome, but children must be mature enough to participate without disturbing other students in the class. (Classes will not be held on these dates: 9/15, 10/13, 10/27, 11/17, 11/24, 12/22.) Council for the Written Word The Council for the Written Word sponsors a Writing Critique Group at the Main Library on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 10:30 am until noon. There will be one meeting in September on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 10:30 am. There will be no meeting on Sept. 18, as the CWW Fall Writers' Workshop will be held that day. Ask at the Circulation Desk for location. |
Franklin Civil War Roundtable |
The next meeting of the Franklin Civil War Round Table will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 3:00 pm at the Main Library, 1314 Columbia Avenue in Franklin. Dr. Tim Johnson, Lipscomb history professor and author, will speak on "The Mexican War: A Civil War Training Ground." Dr. Johnson has written several books related to the Mexican campaigns and his impressive resume includes appearances on C Span's BookTV, the National Archives in Washington and The History Channel. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama and has served as a Visiting Professor at Pepperdine University in California. His discussion will include some specific Tennessee regiments at Monterrey and Cerro Gordo while highlighting some Tennesseans who fought in the Mexican as well as the American Civil War. |
Brown Bag Lunch Bunch On Friday, Sept. 10 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, the Arts Council of Williamson County will hold its monthly Brown Bag Lunch Bunch meeting. Behavior: What Does Communication Have to Do With It? Computer Classes
The Williamson County Public Library in Franklin TN, offers computer classes throughout the year. Classes are free to all Williamson County Public Library card-holders. Registration by phone is required. Introduction to the Computer or equivalent knowledge is required for all other classes. Registration for classes began Monday, Sept. 13. Introduction to the Computer must be taken prior to signing up for any additional classes. To register for classes call the Reference Department at 615-595-1243, and speak with a Librarian. If you are routed to voicemail or another department, keep calling 595-1243 until you have reached a Librarian. All sessions are held in the Main Library Computer Lab on Tuesday afternoons from 2:30 until 4:00 pm. Career Development Resources The Williamson County Public Library has established a grant-funded Career Resource Center. One component of the Center is a resource guide compiled by the WCPL Reference Staff. |
Career Center One-on-Ones Individual appointments with a member of the Reference staff can be made by calling 595-1243 or visiting the reference desk. Appointment times are Tuesday and Thursdays 10:00 -11:30 am. Individual sessions are 30 minutes in length. Patrons must have a valid library card.

Adaptive Technology Center | |

The Main Library's Adaptive Technology Center is available for patrons needing special assistance. The computers, located on the second floor of the library, are equipped with specialty hardware and software for increased ease of use. Both computers feature the screenreader JAWS, screen magnifer MAGic, Open Book scanning software, and Optelec Clear View magnifiers. In addition to the standard scroll mouse, the computers also have trackball and touch pad mice, a switch-adapted joystick and a button switch. Keyboards with larger keys and half-keyboards are available, and the computers are installed on height-adjustable tables. A valid library card is needed to use the Center. Call the Reference Department at 615-595-1243 for more information. |
